Mission & Outreach

We believe Jesus calls us into deep, meaningful relationships with those around us, not just surface-level volunteerism. To serve another, means we are changed too. One way Amity builds these connections and relationships, is to invest in partnerships with other local organizations who are doing life-changing work. These are just some of the ways Amity lives out Christ’s call to love and serve the world.

There’s a place for you!

Wednesday Food Ministry

Every Wednesday at 4:00, we give away fresh fruits, veggies, bread, milk, and eggs to dozens of households in our community. We take seriously Jesus’ call to feed the hungry, and we love meeting our neighbors! Through our partnership with The Bulb, we are fighting hunger and food insecurity right here in East Charlotte.

We need volunteers at 2:30 each week to set-up and sort the produce, then to distribute the food at 4:00. There are sit-down and stand-up jobs, inside and outside jobs, and you can serve for a little while or the whole afternoon! Contact the church below with questions, or just show up to serve!

project harmony

Amity is delighted to be a site for Project Harmony, a music-based afterschool program of Arts+ and the Charlotte Symphony. Two afternoons a week our fellowship hall is filled with elementary school kids learning to read music, play an instrument, and having fun! We serve by opening our space, providing snacks for the kids, and being an extra smiling face to welcome the kids and keep them safe. Project Harmony runs Sept-May each year.

Refugeejitsu

On Thursday nights at 6:30, Amity hosts a free jiu jitsu and self-defense class for kids and youth ages 7 to 18. This class is an outreach of our ministry partner Disciple Dojo, and is designed for kids from East Charlotte’s refugee, immigrant, and local lower-income communities.

This class teaches kids and families how to protect and defend themselves from physical harm, seeks to build genuine friendships among them, be a bridge between their families and the wider Charlotte community, and provide the kids with confidence and a safe outlet for the stress, pressures, and anxieties they face as they grow up.

Kids and youth are welcome to drop in and observe or try out a class.
